How to Stop Spam Comments on a Shopify Blog
Short answer: set blog comments to moderated in Shopify admin so nothing goes live without approval, then add a spam filter on the comment form so most junk never reaches your moderation queue. SpamShield covers blog comment forms as well as contact and newsletter forms.

Step 1: turn on moderation
In Shopify admin, open your blog settings and choose how comments are handled: disabled, allowed, or moderated. Moderated comments stay hidden until you approve them, which keeps spam off your store but does not stop it arriving in your admin.
Step 2: filter before the queue
A spam filter checks each submission before it is saved. SpamShield looks at sender reputation, content patterns, bot behaviour and optional AI signals, and gives each submission a score from 0 to 100. At the default sensitivity, 65 and above is blocked, 40 to 64 is quarantined for you to review, and below 40 is allowed.
Install the app, then turn on the SpamShield app embed in the theme editor. There is no theme code to edit.
Step 3: test and review
Use Test Mode to see how sample messages are scored before relying on the filter, and look at the quarantine now and then. Any automated filter can make mistakes, so release anything genuine and adjust sensitivity.
Cost
SpamShield Starter is $4.99 a month with a 14-day free trial (checked 3 November 2026). There is no Free plan for new Shopify installs. A dedicated blog comment app, Sunny: Blog Comment Manager, lists $2.99 a month with a 30-day free trial and a 4.7 rating from 11 reviews on its listing, and focuses on comments rather than all forms.
Frequently asked questions
SpamShield evaluates form, sign-up, and review submissions using reputation, content, behaviour, and optional AI signals. Configured thresholds determine which submissions are blocked, while borderline submissions stay available for review. Any automated classification can be wrong, so test the setup and review uncertain decisions. It does not place a visible CAPTCHA on the protected form.
