Is There a Free Shopify App to Block Contact Form Spam?
Short answer: yes, several Shopify apps list a free plan for contact form spam, but with small limits. SpamShield is not one of them for new installs: since 2 November 2026 it starts with a 14-day free trial and then $4.99 a month.
Written by JMS Dev Lab, the maker of SpamShield, so weigh our view accordingly. All facts below come from each app's Shopify App Store listing on 3 November 2026 and can change.
Apps that list a free plan or free tier
Limits are as stated on each listing. Most of these apps are new, with few or no reviews.
- MUTE Contact Form Spam Blocker: Free plan with 100 blocks a month; paid plan $3 a month for unlimited blocks. No reviews yet.
- SpamNest: Free plan blocks up to 50 spam messages a month with 7-day blocked history; Pro $4.99 a month. No reviews yet.
- FormGuard Spam Blocker: Free plan with up to 10 blocked keywords and a spam dashboard; Pro $7.99 a month with an AI filter. Rating 5.0 from 1 review.
- Hushh: listed as Free, with a quarantine and one-click restore. No reviews yet.

How SpamShield compares
SpamShield Starter is $4.99 a month with 10,000 checks a month, 3 websites, 30-day message retention and a 14-day free trial. It shows a score and reasons for every decision, quarantines borderline messages for review, has a Test Mode, and covers contact, newsletter and blog comment forms. It has no reviews yet on the App Store.
If your priority is a no-cost plan and your form volume is low, one of the free plans above may be enough. If you want higher volume, longer retention and review controls, a paid plan is more likely to fit. Whichever you pick, test with sample messages and review what gets blocked.
Free options that are not apps
You can add a CAPTCHA to your forms, or require moderation for blog comments in your Shopify admin. A visible CAPTCHA adds a step for every visitor. For a comparison of approaches, see our reCAPTCHA alternative guide.
Frequently asked questions
SpamShield evaluates form, sign-up, and review submissions using reputation, content, behaviour, and optional AI signals. Configured thresholds determine which submissions are blocked, while borderline submissions stay available for review. Any automated classification can be wrong, so test the setup and review uncertain decisions. It does not place a visible CAPTCHA on the protected form.
